Tommy Lee Jones Joins Bourne 5

Cameras are just about ready to roll on the new, currently-untitled Jason Bourne film that will feature the return of Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon to the title role with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass back in the director’s chair. Today, Variety brings word that Damon will have a fellow Academy Award winner starring opposite him as Tommy Lee Jones has just signed on for a role.

Jon Watts Discusses His Plans for Marvel’s Spider-Man

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures surprised many last month when they announced that the new Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film would be directed by relative newcomer Jon Watts. Watts, whose sophomore feature Cop Car hits theaters soon, spoke today with EW about landing the Spider-Man gig and his plans for the friendly neighborhood webhead.

Channing Tatum Exits X-Men Spinoff Gambit?

There’s a major shakeup today on 20th Century Fox’s side of the Marvel Universe as The Wrap is reporting that Channing Tatum is planning to exit the upcoming X-Men spinoff, Gambit. The film was planned to go before cameras in October, although Tatum’s exit would leave the film’s future uncertain.

Paramount Takes College Football Comedy Red Shirts

Paramount Pictures has picked up Red Shirts, an original college football comedy that was scripted by “Veep” stars Timothy Simons and Matt Walsh. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, although no plot synopsis for the film is, as of yet, available.
On “Veep,” Simons plays White House liaison Jonah Ryan while Walsh plays Mike McLintok, the VP’s Director of Communications. The acclaimed HBO series recently completed its fourth season.
On the big screen, Simons recently appeared in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s The Interviewas well as Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. Walsh, meanwhile, has starred in comedies like Ted and The Hangover and as the recent found footage disaster thriller Into the Storm. He’s also slated to appear in Paul Feig’s new Ghostbusters, due out next summer.
Although Simons’ sole writing credit was for “The Nanny,” a short film that he also starred in, Walsh has a bit more experience on the other side of the camera. He directed and cowrote the comedies High Road and A Better You (written with Josh Weiner and Brian Huskey, respectively), among other projects.
Red Shirts will be produced by Red Hour Films.

The Raid’s Joe Taslim Signs on for Star Trek Beyond

Paramount Pictures’ Star Trek Beyond has added another cast member today as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that The Raid star Joe Taslim has signed on for a role. Taslim is no stranger to Justin Lin helmed franchise sequels. He previously played a villainous role in Lin’s Furious Six.
The new film, now in production, will feature the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho along with Idris Elba as the film’s villain and Sofia Boutella in a mystery role. According to the trade, Taslim’s role is closely connected to Elba’s character.
J.J. Abrams, who directed the last two films, is producing the third film in the rebooted franchise. Lin is set to direct from a script by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung.
Paramount Pictures has Star Trek Beyond scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release, which happens to be exactly two months to the day before the franchise’s 50th Anniversary. Although it wasn’t the first episode produced, “The Man Trap,” in which the crew of the Enterprise encounters a deadly shapeshifting salt vampire, introduced the world to “Star Trek” on September 8, 1966.

American Horror Story: Hotel Adds Supermodel Naomi Campbell

“American Horror Story” is set to get an English supermodel makeover as TVLine reports Naomi Campbell will become the latest victim to check into “American Horror Story: Hotel.” “Hotel” represents the fifth installment in Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology series and is also set to star fellow AHS alum Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Wes Bentley, Chloë Sevigny Denis O’Hare, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe and Matt Bomer, along with Lady Gaga and Cheyenne Jackson.
Best-known to TV audiences for reality show “The Face” as well as a five-episode arc on FOX’s “Empire,” Campbell’s multi-episode “Hotel” appearance is said to be as “a fashion editor who pays the ultimate price for her critiques.” Her main interactions will be with Bassett and Gaga, and she will begin filming her part next week.
The fourth season of the series, “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” set a ratings records for FX as the highest-rated telecast in the channel’s history. Production of the 13-episode “Hotel” is currently underway in Los Angeles, and will air on FX in October.
The “American Horror Story” franchise is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.

The New Trailer for We Are Your Friends, Starring Zac Efron

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the second trailer for Max Joseph’s (“Catfish: The TV Show”) feature film directorial debut, We Are Your Friends. The film, from Working Title Films and StudioCanal, stars Zac Efron (Neighbors), Emily Ratajkowski (Gone Girl) and Wes Bentley (InterstellarThe Hunger Games) and hits theaters August 28.

Martin Campbell to Direct Jackie Chan in The Foreigner

Deadline is reporting that Casino RoyaleEdge of Darkness and Green Lantern director Martin Campbell is in talks to direct Jackie Chan in the previously-titled The Foreigner for STX Entertainment. The film, an adaptation of Stephen Leather’s novel “The Chinaman,” is scheduled to start filming in the fall. The book is described as follows:

The project, currently titled Genies, is designed to serve as an origin story of sorts for the djinn famously voiced by the late Robin Williams in Disney’s 1992 feature film version of the classic Arabian tale.

Salem Renewed for a Third Season by WGN America


The magic continues for WGN America’s original, breakout hit series “Salem,” with the announcement made today at Comic-Con International: San Diego by the cast and creative team that the supernatural thriller has been renewed for a third season. The captivating one-hour drama, from Fox 21 Television Studios and creators and writers Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, boldly reimagines the infamous 17th century witch trials in colonial Massachusetts in a world where witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem to be. The third season will begin production in Shreveport, LA later this year for a 2016 debut.
