Star Trek Beyond Title Confirmed, First Set Photo Teased

It’s official! Star Trek Beyond is, as previously rumored, the official title of the next big screen adventure of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701! Director Justin Lin confirmed the title today with atweeted image from the set, showing off the franchise’s familiar delta shield on some form of Starfleet uniform.

Walt Disney Studios Hits the Billion Mark at the Domestic Box Office

On the heels of the biggest opening ever for any original movie (set this past weekend by Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out with $90.4 million domestically), The Walt Disney Studios has crossed the $1 billion mark at the domestic box office in studio record time! It took just 174 days to pass the billion mark, beating the 188-day previous record set on July 8, 2012 by two full weeks. This is the 10th consecutive year (and the 19th year overall) that the studio has surpassed this threshold.
Disney’s 2015 domestic box office has been driven by Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron,CinderellaTomorrowland, and most recently Inside Out. The studio will next releaseMarvel’s Ant-Man on July 17.
“From reimagined classics to massive superhero adventures to original emotional stories, all of our brands have delivered top-notch storytelling this year,” said Dave Hollis, Executive Vice President of Theatrical Exhibition Sales and Distribution, The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re pleased that audiences across the country have embraced our films, and are seeing them the way they were meant to be seen, on the big screen.”

Aquarius Renewed for a Second Season by NBC

NBC has given a second-season renewal for its 1960’s-themed drama “Aquarius,” starring David Duchovny as an LAPD cop on the hunt for Charles Manson, it was announced today by Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment.

Universal Pictures Races to $3.8 Billion for 2015

With this weekend’s business, Universal Pictures’ worldwide box office grosses have reached $3.819 billion, besting the 2013 previously-established record of $3.691 billion, for the studio’s highest-grossing year in history. With more than six months remaining in the 2015 calendar year, Universal has already achieved several milestones fueled by such franchise hits as Fifty Shades of Grey, Furious 7, Pitch Perfect 2 and Jurassic World. The announcement was made by Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Jeff Shell and Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley.

Composer James Horner Dies in Plane Crash

Two-time Oscar-winning composer James Horner has died in a plane crash at the age of 61, according to multiple reports. Horner, who was an experienced pilot, was flying one of his small aircrafts when it crashed north of Santa Barbara.

On June 26, the studio that brought you How to Train Your Dragon unveils an all-new Netflix original series that takes Hiccup and Toothless to the edge of adventure: “DreamWorks Dragons: Race to the Edge.” You can check out the new series trailer below! 
In this new original series, Hiccup and Toothless lead the Dragon Riders as they soar beyond the borders of Berk and discover the mysterious Dragon Eye — an ancient artifact filled with secrets that will lead them to new lands filled with undiscovered dragons. Is Indiana Jones 5 Coming in 2018?

When Disney bought Lucasfilm, they purchased not only Star Wars but the whole lot, includingWillowRadioland Murders and that little franchise known as Indiana Jones. As the 72-year-old Harrison Ford looks less and less likely to step back into his most iconic role, rumors have swirled that Chris Pratt might become the first actor to re-interpret the lead role in features, and now AintItCool is reporting scuttlebutt they’ve heard about Lucasfilm pencilling in a release window for Indiana Jones 5 in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Julia Stiles Gets Re-Bourne Opposite Matt Damon

Production is getting ready to move forward on a new, currently untitled Jason Bourne film that will feature the return of Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon to the title role with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass back in the director’s chair. Now, it seems that another familiar franchise character will also be back. Deadline is reporting that Julia Stiles is set to reprise her role as CIA Agent Nicky Parsons. Stiles played the part in the first three films in the franchise, but she did not return for the Jeremy Renner-led The Bourne Legacy.
Little is known about the plot of the new film, although it has been confirmed that it will not feature a crossover between Damon’s Bourne and Renner’s Aaron Cross.
Stiles, nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as Lumen Ann Pierce on Showtime’s “Dexter,” recently played a supporting role in David O. Russel’s acclaimed drama, Silver Linings Playbook.
Frank Marshall will again produce the new film alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon and Greg Goodman also produce.
Production should begin shortly on Bourne 5 as the film is slated to hit the big screen July 29, 2016.

Doctor Who’s David Tennant Joins Animated Chew Movie

Chew, the upcoming animated feature adaptation of the acclaimed Image Comics series by John Layman and Rob Guillory, has today added David Tennant to its voice cast! The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that the former “Doctor Who” star will play Mason Savoy, who begins the story as a mentor to the lead character. Tennant will join previously-announced stars Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead”) and Felicia Day (“The Guild”).

While the Transformers franchise hasn’t exactly inspired Mad Max: Fury Road-levels of female empowerment, that might all change as Deadline brings word that Christina Hodson and Lindsey Beer have been chosen by Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Paramount Pictures as the first female scribes to join the Transformers “writer’s room” that’s steering the course for sequels, prequels and spin-offs.

Jason Isaacs Boards Gore Verbinski’s A Cure for Wellness

Jason Isaacs, best known for role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, has found another antagonist role. According to a story today at The Hollywood Reporter, Isaacs will play the villain in The Ring director Gore Verbkinski’s upcoming horror tale, A Cure for Wellness.
