Although previous reports suggested that Walt Disney Pictures had plans to move forward with TRON 3, The Hollywood Reporter now brings word that the planned return to the Grid will not be happening. Both Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were set to reprise their respective roles as Sam Flynn and Quorra with TRON: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski back at the helm. Sadly, the studio has elected not to go into production on the sequel. At least for the time being, the future of the TRON franchise has been derezed.

Chris Pine Eyes Steve Trevor Role in Wonder Woman
Well known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, Chris Pine appears to now be heading for the DC Universe. Variety today reports that Pine is in negotiations to play Steve Trevor, the romantic interest of the titular Amazon, in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonder Woman.

Jack Black and Director Jared Hess Reteam for Micronations
Buffalo Film Company has announced it will produce the comedy Micronations, which will star Jack Black (The D Train, Goosebumps). Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Don Verdean,Masterminds) will direct the film, reuniting with Black after their successful collaboration on Paramount Pictures’ Nacho Libre. The screenplay was written by “New Girl” writers Robert Snow and Christian Magalhaes. Brandt Andersen, Dave Hunter and Hess are producing the film under their newly-launched banner Buffalo Film Company. Jack Black’s company, Electric Dynamite, and Damon Ross (Nacho Libre) will also produce.

MGM Moving Forward with Shanghai Dawn, Starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson
Tracking Board brings word that MGM is moving forward with Shanghai Dawn, the third film in the Shanghai Noon series, with both Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson set to reprise their roles of Chon Wang and Roy O’Bannon. Jonathan Glickman, now president of the studio, will return to produce the feature, which is currently seeking writers.

Dwayne Johnson to Star in Sci-Fi Action Comedy Alpha Squad Seven
DreamWorks Pictures is teaming with San Andreas star Dwayne Johnson for a new sci-fi action comedy titled Alpha Squad Seven. The Hollywood Reporter says that Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer are behind the pitch, which has Beau Flynn producing via his FlynnPictureCo. along with Johnson, who will produce through his 7 Bucks Productions.
